Apples of Gold

For four years now, FBCMP has held a banquet honoring the teachers of the students in our church. Each student grades K-8th grade can invite one teacher to honor at the annual Apples of Gold banquet. little c recently honored Mrs. Heeren, her 2nd grade teacher.

Our table

Each family decorates a table so the banquet has a very personal feel

The Children's Choir sang two songs from their upcoming musical "Estherday"

little c sang a solo!
We enjoyed Monterrey Chicken on a bed of rice, a green salad, and these scrumptious baked apples with a cinnamon oatmeal filling!
The evening concluded with little c drawing the names for all the door prizes. Her teacher's name wasn't drawn so Mrs. Heeren promised her a spanking the next morning ;)

little c celebrates Valentine's Day

little c recently celebrated Valentine's day with a class party. This year she made all the girls valentine necklaces and all the boys braided friendship bracelets...her mother is a Pinterest addict you know.

little c and Anna Claire all dressed up for the "dance". The kids were encouraged to wear their "snazziest outfits" and the girls were all-too-thrilled to dress up for the occasion!
little c and friends dance to Justin Bieber...the boys ran and hid with their fingers in their ears!

Doing the limbo
The kids ate lots of cupcakes, cookies, and other goodies and danced and danced. Originally that day she told me that when it was time for me to go back to work she wanted to leave and come to school with me. But when that time came, she was having too much fun and changed her mind!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Father Daughter Dance 2012

My two c's enjoyed their annual night-on-the-town at the Optimist Club Father Daughter Dance the weekend before Valentine's Day. little c and I left school and rushed to the hair dresser to get her some fancy hair and get her tiara put in.
Ms. Jessica gives little c some curls

We then went home, painted fingers and toes, donned the fancy dress with rhinestones and her new high heel shoes, and she was picture perfect!

ready for her date
look at those curls!

They have been going to the Father Daugter dance since 2008 and I hope they will continue going for many years to come!

Introducing...Clara Barton!

As part of a second grade project, little c recently had to choose a historical figure, research it, and then create a report and project. little c is fascinated with the Civil War, slavery, the Underground Railroad, and all the many characters associated with that time period. She did a report for her class on Harriett Tubman last year, so this year she chose Clara Barton. She read a couple of books about her and looked up pictures of her on the Internet. She wrote her report at school and she and I worked on her "biography bottle" project at home. An empty 2-liter bottle of Coke Zero, a Styrofoam ball, some paint, fabric, yarn, googly eyes, and Barbie doctor kit supplies transformed over the course of a few days into Clara.

Meet Clara Barton! little c painted the Styrofoam ball to create her head. She cut her nose and mouth out of craft foam and painted her nose flesh color. She cut her jacket out of fabric based on a baby doll coat we happened to have. She made her stethoscope out of pipe cleaners and tin foil. She made her nurse's hat out of paper and drew on the red cross. I helped with hot gluing it all together and voila!

Clara on display at little c's school. Very proud of your hard work little c!

AWANA Grand Prix

Big C and little c competed in their first AWANA Grand Prix this month. AWANA is our Wednesday night church for kids and the Grand Prix is their version of the pinewood derby. So Big C and little c were charged with the task of creating a car from a block of wood, painting it, and getting it ready to race.

little c sands her car

and more sanding...little c was really excited to get to do this (for a little while...)
ready to paint!

pink, of course

finishing up her paint job...does this car look any different from the ones pictured above? (It should. This is car #2. Big C discovered the first car did not weigh nearly enough and did not have enough room to add weights. So it was back to the drawing board. little c was none too excited about that after all that sanding she had done!)

the finished product, complete with glitter paint, weighing in at exactly 5 ounces on the nose...introducing...#67 Sparkle & Speed!!!!
